Topic: Spencer Seim Talks Fly Tying and Fishing Colorado and New Mexico

Spencer Seim is an angler and guide in the southern Rockies. Based in Taos, NM Spencer just finished up his 22nd year guiding his clients on incredible waters in northern New Mexico and southern Colorado. Always eager to meet interesting people and open to adventure, Spencer has a few lifetimes of stories. From hopping freight trains to chasing wild fish in the high country, he’s learned a lot about the drive of passion for the peace and serenity we all seek as fly fishers.
Born and raised in the high plains of Lubbock, TX, there were no trout streams to wade for a young and adventurous kid. As soon as he could, Spencer packed up his Blazer and headed out to a ranch in Cimarron, NM and quickly found employment with Philmont Scott Ranch. It was then that he developed his strong work ethic by teaching scouts about blacksmithing, living history, and of course fly fishing. Over the next several years Spencer moved around in the western US and eventually guided his first fishing trip on Boulder Creek outside of Boulder, CO in 1995. In the years after that, he had lived and fished around Flagstaff, AZ, Angel Fire, NM, and eventually landed in Sidney, NE and got a job working directly for Dick and Jim Cabela. In 2002 Spencer landed in Taos, NM and has guided ever since. He’s also become a hook maker, salmon fly tyer and watch builder. Spencer was the key contributor for Kirk W Johnson’s book “The Feather Thief”. His flies have been featured in several publications such as The Drake, Americas Favorite Flies, and Smithsonian Magazine.

Our Mission

We are a FEDERATION OF FLY FISHERS ffiliated club, a national organization whose goal, like ours, is to promote the wonderful sport of fly-fishing as well as protect our natural resources. We promote catch and release, education, conservation, and above all, encourage and help those who desire to learn more about all aspects of fly-fishing.

Fly Fishers for Conservation (FFFC) was organized in 1961 by a group of devoted fly fishers deeply concerned with the preservation of trout and all game fish, their environment, and the quality of fishing. Our club has maintained two goals since that time: To foster and promote the sport of angling with artificial flies. To protect, conserve and increase our angling resources.

Fly Fishers for Conservation is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt non-profit organization. This means you can use your contribution as a tax deduction. The club gets revenue from member-ship dues and the annual fundraiser dinner. We try to contribute to conservation issues in the area and to our youth with our Trout in the Classroom program, the No Child Left Inside program and by holding a Youth Fly-Fishing Academy annually. The club is al-ways in need of funds. Please consider donating. You may send a check to Fly Fishers for Conservation at PO Box 1192, Clovis, CA 93613. Your donations will be greatly appreciated and they will help the club fulfill its obligations.
