January 20

The Lower King River Cookout

The 2024 Lower Kings River Cookout was a great success! Thank you all for participating. We had a day of great food, fun fellowship and (despite the crowds) some good fishing! Pyramid Lake, NV

Despite the cold weather and slow bite we managed to land a few of the unique Lahontan Cutthroat Trout. Pyramid Lake is a special place and these fish are fun to catch. hank you Gavin for hosting this great trip. June 22

High Sierra Lake

High Sierra Alpine Lakes are beautiful in late Spring/Early Summer and Weaver Lake did not disappoint. Crystal clear water, blue skies, abundant wildflowers and willing (sort-of) fish. The fishing brought mixed results but persistence and experimenting paid off.  See the Weaver Lake Photo Album for more pictures.

 


 

August 8-11

Golden Trout/Kern River Basin Trip
There are 3 of the Heritage Trout species in the Kern River Basin and Golden Trout Wilderness area. The Little Kern Golden west of the Kern River, the Kern River Rainbow in both branches of the main Kern River and the CA Golden Trout east of the Kern River and into the Golden Trout Wilderness. We are planning a 4 day trip to pursue each of these three species. We will leave Thursday morning 8/8 (or Wednesday evening) and return Sunday, 8/11. we plan to stay in campgrounds. September 14-18

Northern CA Heritage Trout Challenge

In the Northeast corner of the state and in the headwaters of Mount Shasta are 3 species of Redband Trout that qualify for the CA Heritage Trout Challenge. Over these five days we will head to the far northeast corner of the state to pursue the Warner Lake Redband, the Goose Lake Redband and the McCloud Redband. This will likely be a combination of camping and motels and will finish in Redding on the 18th as some of us will be joining Lance Gray in drift boat fishing the Lower Sac on the 19th. Lower Sacramento River Drift Boat Outing

Lance Gray has arranged for 4 drift boats on the lower Sacramento River for Thursday, September 19, 2024. The trip is open for 8 anglers and Lance will attempt to obtain more boats based on demand.   The cost for the trip is $275 per angler and requires 2 anglers per boat! Upper Kings River

Hosted by Bill Bruce, bbruce@cvip.net, and Brian Loven, bdloven@live.com. We'll fish the Upper Kings River. Details and event registration to come soon. This is a great opportunity to learn the river and tactics for success from two of the masters. Stay tuned for more details.

East Side - Tom's Place Outing

Hosted by Scott Piggott. The East side is loaded with great fishing options. The Upper and Lower Owens Rivers, Hot Creek, Crowley Lake, high mountain lakes and streams. This is a weekend trip you will not want to miss. Scott has made arrangement for a few cabins and lodge rooms at Tom's Place near Crowley Lake. O’Neill Forebay 

Striper outing held at O’Niell Forebay. If you have not fished for Stipers in the Forebay before then this will be a great opportunity to be introduced to these powerful fish. We will meet near the boat dock first thing in the morning to help with set-up and tactics. Float-tubes, Kayaks or small boats are recommended but not necessary. Success can be had from shore as well. The club will have burgers for lunch (for those who register) in the picnic area. In addition to burgers we’ll share fish tales and pictures! We encourage you to bring a small side dish of your choice to share. Please register on the club website.

The Lower King River Cookout 

Our annual Lower Kings River Cookout is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, January 18. The Lower Kings River is a great winter fishery with the potential to catch rainbows in the 20” range. Just 30 minutes from Fresno this make a great daytrip. We’ll fish the morning, gather for lunch at Avocado Lake to swap stories, then fish the afternoon. This is a great outing for all skill levels. If you are new to fly fishing or new to the Lower Kings River then will be plenty of seasoned fisherman from the club there to help you find success.
