The Fresno Fly Fishers for Conservation are hosting an Adult Academy (AA) for any person that is 16 years or older. The workshop is titled, “Fly Fishing 101”and is meant to be a broad brush stroke covering the basic techniques of fly fishing. We meet at the Avocado Lake pavilion at 8AM on February 21, 2026. Remember that you will be charged $5 per car to enter the park. You must become a member of our club to attend the AA. Memberships range, depending on age, from $30 to $60 (family membership). It is easy to join, just click on the following link and select the appropriate membership for your age and follow the directions on the website. Then you register for the AA - there is a $50 charge to attend the AA. Many people ask, “What do I get for fifty bucks? Coffee and doughnuts A hearty lunch A reference manual to take with you that will come in handy as you begin your fly fishing journey A box of flies to get you started What to expect: The day will be broken up into 4 teaching sessions: Gear Knots Entomology and fly simulations Casting If water and weather conditions are safe, we will have a practice session in the afternoon to practice your newfound skills. Experienced club anglers will be available to assist you with the basics. We suggest that you should bring as many of the following items: Valid CA Fishing License (this is mandatory if you want to fish in the afternoon) Fly fishing equipment; we recommend a 4-6 WT rod with a floating line. Rods will be provided for the morning classes. Let us know if you need a loaner fly rod for the afternoon session and we will try to arrange one. Bring your favorite flies, but we will supply you with a few of our favorites for fishing the Lower Kings. Waders, wading staff, sun screen,
bug spray, hat,  polarized sun glasses camping / folding chair
