The Lower Kings River Cookout & Fishing Contest

Our annual Lower Kings River Cookout was, once again, another great success. We had nearly 40 people join us this year, with a few brand new to the club or guests joining us for the first time. Despite the crowds at the river, many of our members caught fish. New member Kevin Knack took home the trophies for both the biggest fish and the most fish caught that day. Thank you to all who participated and thank you Kevin Smith for hosting this years outing. We look forward to doing it again next year.

February 28-March 1

Lower Yuba River

After three years of poor weather that prevented us from making this trip we have a new date for the Lower Yuba River. This stretch of the river is private water owned by the University of California - the Yuba River Education Center. They offer this stretch of the river exclusively to fly fishing clubs with a limit of 20 anglers per day. The Lower Yuba has a great reputation for very strong active Rainbows and the occasional Steelhead. Those who registered and paid last year will have first-right-of-refusal for this year's trip. If you are not registered but interested in joining if space becomes available please let Tim Ritchey know at tritchey@comcast.net. The cost per angler is $50 for access to the site. Food and lodging are separate. There are both hotel and camping options nearby. Keep an eye out for updates as we get closer. Lower Yuba River Outing 2025 - Tentative Date - 2/22/2025

March 6-7

Upper Kings River - Overnight

Join us for a few days on one of our favorite sections of river, the Upper Kings. We have a cabin (Camp 4 Campground) for the night of the 6th, so plan on coming up early on Friday, do some fishing if you have time, then we'll have a BBQ dinner at the cabin. Saturday morning we'll start out early for a day on the water. The early fly gets the rainbow! Register early to get space in the cabin. About Camp 4 About Camp 4 Campground is a small primitive camping area located at 1,000 feet elevation along the Wild and Scenic Kings River in the Giant Sequoia National Monument, managed by the Hume Lake Ranger District of Sequoia National Forest. The campground features five first-come, first-served campsites, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring, plus a vault toilet. The Kings River is popular for whitewater rafting with up to Class III rapids, making this a favorite spot for river enthusiasts, particularly during spring runoff. This is a remote, no-fee campground with no potable water available, so campers must bring their own supply. The access road is unsuitable for trailers. Campfire permits are required for all fires and stoves, and fire restrictions may be enforced during hot, dry conditions. Supplies can be obtained in the nearby community of Piedra. The campground is accessible year-round and sees heavy use during peak seasons. Directions From Fresno, travel 65 miles east via State Highway 180, then Piedra Road/Trimmer Springs Road (Forest Road 11S12), and Davis Road (Forest Road 12S01). The campground is located along the Kings River. Register here: Upper Kings River- Spring 2026 - 3/6/2026
