Target audience is for novice and newer fly fishers as we will review gear, knots, entomology, casting and more…
It is important to note that attendance will be limited and registration will be required in order to reserve a spot. There will be a $100 fee that must be paid during the registration process.
Additionally, attendees will be responsible for Park entrance fee.
The course will be broken into 4 sessions of Gear, Knots, Entomology and Casting. Attendees will be part of a group of 5 and rotate from one session to another every hour.
A detailed agenda will be given to you at the event.
Coffee and Doughnuts will be available upon your arrival and a wholesome lunch will also be provided. A practice session on the river is scheduled (if water flow conditions permit) in the afternoon to continue to brush up your skills and work on areas that should improve your success on the water.
Waders are highly recommended if you plan on fishing the river, as water temperatures will be cold! You will also have access to the lake if you want to just work on casting. We hope to have one experienced angler for every two attendees.
Items you should bring include:
Valid CA Fishing License,
Fly fishing equipment; recommend a 4-6 wt rod with a floating line.
Bring your favorite flies, but we will also supply you with a few of our favorites for the Lower Kings.
Waders and wading staff,
Sun Screen, Bug Spray,
Hat, Polarized Sun Glasses and
Chair.

If you have not fished for Stipers in the Forebay before then this will be a great opportunity to be introduced to these powerful fish. We will meet near the boat dock first thing in the morning to help with set-up and tactics. Float-tubes, Kayaks or small boats are recommended but not necessary. Success can be had from shore as well. The club will have burgers for lunch (for those who register) in the picnic area. In addition to burgers we’ll share fish tales and pictures! We encourage you to bring a small side dish of your choice to share. Please register for this event to reserve your burger.

Our annual Lower Kings River Cookout is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, January 18. The Lower Kings River is a great winter fishery with the potential to catch rainbows in the 20” range. Just 30 minutes from Fresno this make a great day-trip. We’ll fish the morning, gather for lunch at Avocado Lake to swap stories, then fish the afternoon. This is a great outing for all skill levels. If you are new to fly fishing or new to the Lower Kings River then will be plenty of seasoned fisherman from the club there to help you find success.
